Take Action Puget Sound - You Are About to Be Screwed!

It sure seems simple. A child could tell you that allowing an industrial gravel mine - with an Industrial barge - loading facility in, and shipping through the only State designated Aquatic Reserve in Central Puget Sound is a stupid idea. But I called our Councilmember Jan Drago's office to ask how she plans to vote - to which I got a VERY DISTURBING reply. Jan Drago wrote to me Friday afternoon. Frighteningly, our appointed-not-elected, lame duck, completely unaccountable Councilmember Jan Drago is somehow "undecided" as to how to REPRESENT US, her temporary constituents with her vote on whether or not to protect Maury Island and Puget Sound. She wrote, "It's an extremely complex issue with a lot to consider, and, simply put, I have not made a final decision..." Hm? Her indecision should set off alarm bells for all of us! GET READY TO BE SCREWED!

Hell with Congress - We Need A Movement!

Change was never going to originate in Washington, DC. Change is always
catalyzed by social movements. The legitimate anger that animates the
Tea Partiers may be misplaced and polluted with racism and fear, but
most of us share their outrage at the system we find ourselves
participants in and victimized by. If anyone is to blame for the Tea
Party, it is the Beltway Democratic Party affiliated progressive
organizations and foundations who failed to create and fund a populist
left flank.

The strategic response to Tuesday's election results is not to fight to
defend private mandates or toothless financial reforms. The strategic response is to refocus and redouble our efforts to build a nationally-networked, community-based progressive populist movement that makes a real difference in the People's lives.

Our Community-Our Money: Economic Democracy via Credit Union-Progressive Community Partnerships Is Doable!

A positive populism is still ours for taking, and organizing around issues like foreclosures, local green jobs, healthy food for our kids etc. can only be strengthened by buttressing and directing our own democratic, cooperative financial institutions. On Vashon Island, we are proving that it is not as difficult as we thought it would be.
